Orchestrated Chaos

Pushing my own buttons.

I have been thinking lately. I have had the discomfort to think of, and dissect the anatomy of a headache. Not something that I'm happy with, however, I have been able to turn my attention inward and listen to the types of "ache" and the severity. I guess that it could be akin to a chef having a more discerning palate, or a music lover being able to listen and hear more out of a concert or symphony.

As you can imagine, being a headache connoisseur isn't exactly something that I wished for as a child.

Now, I have noticed something that I find peculiar. Used to be less pronounced a few years ago, but lately around headache time, I have trouble verbalizing longer sentences, or thinking of synonyms for words. Just a thought, but not something that makes me sleep easier.

For years I have been annoyed at my seeming inability to verbally convey what I perceive to be rather complex thoughts. When words tumble from my mouth I am nearly always disappointed by how off the mark they usually are. Oh well.

I've been thinking:

1) Saturday night as I was pulling out of a parking lot in Avon, I glanced at a store front across the street and was surprised to see: "Trophies, Plagues, Engravings". Yes, yes, a second glance confirmed that it was actually plaques, but really anyone could have made that mistake.

2) Codeine, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

3) I was looking at different websites the other day, and I was really impressed by J. K. Rowling's website. Beyond the obvious Harry Potter rumor control, there are some cute sections, like miscellanious facts and hints that she never managed to work into the books.

4) I wish I had time to write more, however we are all going to a library event over in Honeoye Falls. Ice Cream before lunch, the Dad in my wants to say no, but how can I say no to ice cream?!

5) Oh, Michelle got the job that she has been interviewing for! Librarian Director in the next town. Yeah!

Thanks Kyle, I had to take this a couple times, so I didn't get the same thing you did......

Michelle found this photo, and I thought it very appropriate to post again, in light of Holly's addiction to the Caillou and Arthur websites. I guess I started her a little early. Posted by Hello
Well, even though Michelle has probably already posted this on her blog, I'm going to blog it too.

Yesterday I was getting Holly out of the car, and she gives me a hug and says: "Daddy, you are forever my man."

Michelle and I didn't stop laughing for five minutes.

Kyle, your comment on my last post ("I'm am now passing on my wisdom, use wisley."), shouldn't that be spelled "wisely"?
I just thought it ironic that you misspelled that, I guess there is a difference better wisdom and intelligence. Heheheheh, as if carrying your side during our online games isn't enough........

Michelle told me that she saw a bumper sticker the other day we want: "I am SO going to blog this."

Whether to write of the weather?

It seems to me that two weeks ago, we were still wearing our spring jackets, the kids needed sweaters to go outside. Now for this past week we have been sweating our way through 90 degree heat with humidity that feels like a warm, wet blanket. If there had been a week or two in between the extremes to get us ready, maybe it wouldn't have been such a startling change.

Last night at work, I locked up and left right on time, to the rhythm of huge fat raindrops just beginning to fall. By the time I got the car started, and got moving I could barely see, at just the speed of moving through the parking lot. I travelled the 1/4 mile down the road and the rain stopped. I ran in to the grocery store, and when I came out it was still dry. I got back in the car and all the way home (another stop to the gas station) it was alternating heavy rain, and dry pavement. Rather disconcerting.

My last Star Wars post

I promise, this will be my last post on this subject (I hope I haven't promised that before......).

I was reading Entertainment Weekly, and since most of the writers there seem to be big Star Wars fans (although much more mentally stable then "fanboys"), and they had quite a funny little sidebar article about the 5 largest continuity problems between Revenge of the Sith, and A New Hope. Really a funny article, because it pointed out some things that I didn't think about between the two.

The time between Revenge of the Sith, and A New Hope, is supposed to be about twenty years, however Obi Wan Kenobi ages from Ewan McGregor to Alex Guiness, about 50 years between them. The article suggested moisturizer might have countered the desert heat (since Obi Wan was chilling in the desert of Tatooine) that so ravaged his skin.

Also concerning Obi Wan, when Luke and him are talking in A New Hope, about how R2-D2 has been seeking him out saying that the droid was his property, Obi Wan says, "No, I can't recall ever owning a droid." But Episodes 2 and 3, R2-D2 and Obi Wan spend practically all their time together. Was the desert heat also effecting his memory.

Those were from the article, but I have been watching the DVD of A New Hope, and now I have a couple observations. I was vaguely disappointed that the DVD commentary of George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, Ben Burtt, and Dennis Muren was not what I expected. They aren't together, interacting, they recorded their commentaries separately, and then it was spliced together. One of the things I like about commentaries is hearing how they talk to each other when they aren't in character. I guess that is why I like the DVD's of Red Dwarf so much.

The last thing, among George Lucas' vast amount of talking (at least 75% of the commentary is him talking about how A New Hope was mostly mythological figures set in a distant future type setting) was that Darth Vader didn't actually kill Obi Wan Kenobi. Obi Wan, made a choice right before Vader swings the lightsaber to "surrender himself to the force". How are we supposed to have figured that out? I spent 20 years of my life thinking that he was killed but just evaporated or something, I guess it explains why Vader sticks a boot out and nudges Obi Wan's cloak in confusion......but that is a big leap to make.

Holly will be an English teacher, or a nurse.

A couple days ago, Holly made a funny comment. I had taken some of my prescription medicine, and was lying down trying to give it a few minutes to work. Holly had her head on the pillow next to me, and said to me: "I have a migraine, Daddy, you have a your-graine."

Ryan is smiling, can't you tell? His eyes are closed. Now the point of all these pictures has been that tree right above our two seat swing. As you can tell we have been inundated with those little "helicopters". The seeds are everywhere! There wasn't this many last year, not even close. Posted by Hello

Another establishing shot. Posted by Hello

I'll explain this......our front yard. Posted by Hello

Ryan's Uniform. He absolutely refused to put on his normal shoes (nice Old Navy ones). He wanted his boots, even though it was 80 degrees outside. It is like he has a mind of his own or something. Posted by Hello

I had a few more thoughts.

Last night, after I finished my post, I actually had a few other ideas. Of course, I can't remember them now....I'll do my best:

I took Holly and Ryan for TWO walks around our park (yes, I call this mobile home community a park, a lot simpler for the kids). I must admit, with all the folks out doing yardwork, I haven't seen that much polyester since, well......ever, I guess.

I have been listening to Belle and Sebastian lately. I was fine with that until I read this description of them: "Orchestrated pop marked by literary preciousness has seen this band take the place of the Smiths on high school notebooks." I don't want to be anti-high school music, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to still listen to it now.

Well, I just finished a full Virus Scan. 193,088 files, it took a little over an hour. But I have special circumstances. My 160 Gig master hard drive is 60-some percent full. And my 200 Gig slave drive (partitioned into 4 separate drives) is probably about 70 percent full. I gotta fire up that DVD burner.

Every 2 days I water the plants in our kitchen. Plants is a broad term, we can only keep Ivy plants alive. We just got some cuttings of some spider plants, they almost died when they were in direct sunlight for 10 hours, but I trimmed them back and have been watering them frequently. They seem to be getting better. But for some reason, our kitchen is like a desert. If I wait a whole 2 days, then the dirt is SO dry. It is like that room is the desert. Our bedroom is like a rainforest. You see, our dryer isn't working, so we have been hanging laundry in our bedroom (and out on the clothes line, relax). Who needs a humidifier. We will get the dryer fixed, but you know, we are probably saving a ton on electricity costs. We do quite a bit of laundry, as you might expect. But since Michelle is rather strict on doing a load of laundry every day, we manage quite nicely. Hang a load up every night.

Well, I am sure I will think of something else as soon as I press "Publish Post", but, here goes.

Rambling down the road.....

Well, I realize that it has been a little bit since I have posted something.....substantial. But I have four words for you: Holly, Ryan, Married, Stay-at-home Dad (ok, not four words, but that would be four words according to Gareth Keenan).

1) Simple question: Where would the world be without beer?

2) After seeing Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith, a couple weeks ago, I think that I have come to a rather self-deprecating conclusion that I think that I have a pretty significant bias against Natalie Portman. Seriously, her performances in this most recent movie were as wooden and emotionless as ALL the other movies she was ever in. And frankly, I was relieved when she finally died. I was worried that she would talk again in a flashback or something, but thankfully I was spared that trauma.

3) Yesterday, Holly and Ryan and I had a rough day. I was thankful when they got in to bed at 7:30, it meant that I could try and get some semblance of mental healing. They get frustrated when the options that we have during the day are really limited. I feel guilty because some days, I am in no shape to go above and beyond, and try to impact their little psyches. But today, they were the cutest little brother and sister in the world. Holly played with Ryan at his gate, before naptime was over. We had a picnic lunch outside, and they were absolutely breathtaking in their conversation and behavior. It was hilarious when Ryan saw an ant (his mortal enemy) and he chucked his spoon, and ran to my lap (the spoon actually landed in his bowl of cottage cheese, I was impressed).

4) I am pretty sad that Scrubs Season 5 won't be back until mid-season. I'm assuming that since shows start around late August, mid-September, that means it won't be back until October. And they even sure about what time slot that it will be in. I guess they will wait to see what will be cancelled mid-season, and use Scrubs to plug that hole. Sad to have to wait that long for one of TV's best shows.

5) I have to pee.

6) On the way back from the grocery store today, Holly and I were listening to some music on the radio, some rather soothing music. She says to me with the seriousness of an adult: "This music is making me sleepy." Then 60 seconds later, she yawns! I melted, for the thousandth time for both of them. And I also think that I might try to listen to that music more often!

Well, I am trying to get to bed earlier, so that's going to be it for tonight. Leave some comments for me!

About that picture:

Yesterday I posted a picture of Holly using the computer. But the thing that blows me away is that she is actually USING the computer. I get the browser to her favorite website, and then she uses the mouse and actually plays the game all on her own. I'm amazed that, at the ripe old age of 3, she has the manual dexterity and the hand-eye coordination to match 10 picture cards with 5 various Caillou characters on them. I won't even bring up the fact that she remembers what cards are in each position, and solves the game within a pretty good time frame. But when she finishes, she clicks the button to start a new game!

As William said: "Like Father, like daughter."
